Being of Indian origin, I have borne the brunt of ridicule and have had to cop nasty comments of all sorts including those that undermine an individual’s physical beauty and appearance. With the intention of challenging stereotypical notions entertained by the ignoramus, I embarked on an investigation to decipher where Indians stood on the international beauty scale. The findings of this research was not disappointing, on the contrary it was eye opening. Indian beauties have been on a winning spree from the 1966 with Miss Reita Faria bagging the Miss World title, Zeenat Aman – the Miss Asia Pacific title in 1970, Tara Anne Fonseca – the Miss Asia Pacific in 1973, Aishwarya Rai – Miss World in 1994, Sushmita Sen – Miss Universe in 1994, Diana Hayden – Miss World 1997, Yuktha Mookhey – Miss World 1999, Lara Dutta – Miss Universe title in 2000, Priyanka Chopra – Miss World in 2000, Nicole Faria – Miss Earth 2010. I am firm in my conviction that the future will see many more Indian beauties stealing the show at international beauty pageants.
