Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained

Karanjit Kaur Vohra who was previously known to the world as Sunny Leone, the Penthouse Pet and a world renowned Pornstar has regained her reputation among fans, friends and family by becoming a Bollywood actress and a Discovery Jeet host of the show Man vs Wild. Her love relationship with the lead guitarist of a famous rock band ‘The Disparrows’ Daniel Weber, who after his marriage with Sunny Leone, becomes her Business Manager and is responsible for steering her to a stardom in a different industry. When she was signed by an adult film company Vivid entertainment, her community and the American suburb contributed to her defamation by talking negatively about her choices and by refusing to have any interaction or acquaintance with her.  By pitching her in the right music videos, TV shows, family-oriented performances such as marriages, award ceremonies etc., and in the right movies, Daniel Weber achieved the nearly impossible.

In the modern world where the popular maxim, “Character is lost nothing is lost, when wealth is lost something is lost and when health is lost everything is lost” has been interpreted as “If wealth is lost everything is lost,” Sunny Leone through her belief in herself, courage, perseverance and sensible decisions succeeded in regaining the paradise she had lost several years ago, thereby proving that if character is lost nothing is lost. Her ruthless honesty, right from the start has contributed towards her success. Her open admission that her past was related to adult film industry, however, now with the consummation of marriage she is willing and eager to explore the respected wing of the entertainment industry, Bollywood films has rewarded her. I was clueless about her Indian origin until I watched the documentary titled ‘Mostly Sunny’ on Netflix. Her acceptance by people belonging to her place of origin and people on home soil  is complete with Discovery Channel appointing her as the host of a survival series named ‘Man vs Wild’.

I regard her not as an advocate of feminism but womanism, as there is mutual understanding between her and her partner, who is an equally daring personality as he tied the knot with an unconventional woman despite his Jewish background and being the son of a rich businessman. Being a modern woman, she asserts her presence, exercises her rights, legitimizes her aspirations through the usage of intelligence, wit, patience and tolerance. In Sunny Leone’s case, due to the choice of a right supportive partner, the alliance between her and Daniel Weber is progressing despite the differences of opinions and all odds.

Women from all walks of life need to learn life lessons from her. Instead of associating herself with people who would bring her down and making meaningless compromises and sacrifices of her goals or career, Sunny Leone chose to associate herself with a man who acknowledged her for what she was worth and provided her with unconditional support in achieving her aspirations.
